To mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of the corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Vasyl Vasyliovych Nimchuk, the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine organized the International Scientific Conference “History of the Ukrainian Language: From Text to Dictionary”, which began its work on September 7, 2023.

The conference was attended by scientists of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University: Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language Vasyl Vasylovich Greshchuk, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Ukrainian Studies Valentina Vasylivna Greshchuk, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head Brus Maria Petrivna of the Department of the Ukrainian Language.

At the first plenary session, the Director of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Pavlo Yukhimovych Hrytsenko addressed the conference participants with a welcome speech and started the conference with the report “Ukrainian-South Slavic isoglosses in the light of Professor V.V. Nimchuk”. It is an honor that the scientists of Vasyl Stefanyk Pre-Carpathian National University, professor Vasyl Vasyliovych Greshchuk and Valentina Vasylivna Greshchuk, assistant professor, also had the opportunity to deliver their report at the plenary session “Textbook on the history of the Ukrainian language of the 10th-13th centuries. V.V. Nimchuk: a linguistic-political dimension”. Actual problems of linguistics were touched upon in the reports: “The concept of ethnic language and ethnolinguistic consciousness in the scientific works of Professor V.V. Nimchuk” (Farion I.D.), “The problem of the language of the church in the research work of Professor V.V. Nimchuk” (Puryaeva N.V.) and “About the dictionary of dialects of the Dovge village of Zakarpattia region” (Venzhynovych N.F.).

At the second plenary session, the participants of the conference had the opportunity to listen to the following reports: “The relevance and effectiveness of the direction of the publication of ancient Ukrainian church and religious written monuments, initiated by Professor V.V. Nimchuk” (Hnatenko L.A.), “Chronological oikonym Terebovlia: problems of etymology” (Verbych S.O.), “Statistical methods and the study of written monuments” (Nayenko G.V.), “Archaic exclamations as a manifestation of the specificities of the linguistic world Ukrainians” (L.P. Hnatiuk) and others.

The work of the sectional meetings of the International Scientific Conference continued on September 8, 2023. At the first sectional meeting, chaired by a candidate of philological sciences, a senior researcher at the Department of Dialectology of the Institute of Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Lyudmila Vitalyivna Ryabets, leading scientists of Ukraine presented reports: “The concept of the soul through the prism of the works of I. Galyatovsky” (M. V. Skab, Skab M.S.), “Names of feminine persons in the Dobryl Gospel of 1164: etymological, word-forming and lexical aspects” (Brus M.P.), “The image of “prayer of the heart” in T. Shevchenko in comparison with “prayer of the word” (Yermolenko S.Ya.) and others. At the second sectional meeting, chaired by Ruslana Oleksandrivna, candidate of philological sciences, senior researcher of the Department of History of the Ukrainian Language and Onomastics of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kotsa Ruslana Oleksandrivna presented the following studies: “Variant forms of nouns in prepositional-infinitive compounds (on the material of monuments of the Ukrainian language of the 16th–17th centuries)” (Vysotska T.Y.), “Phytonyms in the history of the Ukrainian language (mallows, peonies)” (Krovytska O.S.), “Denotative component in the names of divine persons in baroque texts” (Voitiv G.V.), “Vocalism of the Northern Podlaskie dialect of Buzzards: a genetic and areaological comment” (M. Tkachuk), “Reflexes of Proto-Slavic demonstrative pronouns *onъ and *ovъ in the Ukrainian language” (Kotsa R.O.) and others.

All the reports that were given during the work of the conference caused lively discussions and discussions. Vasyl Vasyliovych Nimchuk’s scientific research is extremely important at the current stage of the development of linguistics, as evidenced by the speeches of leading scientists at the International Scientific Conference.
