Celebrating the Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language

Today, on November 9th, on the Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language, the director of our Institute Valentyna Greshchuk and leading specialists Natalia Dranitsyna and Hanna Shkoruta, as well as other teachers, students, employees of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and all those interested had the opportunity to join the writing of the XXI Radio Dictation of National Unity. The text was read by the Ukrainian writer Yuriy Andrukhovych, and the linguist, doctor of philology, professor of the Ukrainian language department of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Larysa Masenko took part in the methodical work on the dictation. Everyone who wrote had the opportunity to test their literacy and at the same time feel the national unity.

The director of our Institute at practical classes in Stylistics together with bachelors paid tribute to the native language and plunged into the depths of the beauty of the Ukrainian word. Philologists read melodic poetry, and extremely deep essays, and insightful short stories, and meaningful reports, which they created themselves. Everyone who had the opportunity to speak was able to touch the deepest depths of the heart. Bachelors tried to reflect in their artistic texts the beauty and comprehensiveness of the native language. Some emphasized its melodiousness and importance, while others emphasized the resilience shown during the struggle against the ban on the use of the Ukrainian language. Everyone tried to show their love for the native language and pass it on to others.

The students invited everyone to join the flashmob with the hashtag #language_is_the_destiny_of_our_people, to share their creative achievements, thoughts and to honor our nightingale, colorful, melodic Ukrainian language! Here’s how Vasylyna Tyminska did it:

“Every nation has an immeasurable wealth of soul – its language. It is the greatest spiritual treasure in which the people glorify themselves, by which they present to the world the most valuable achievements of their heart and wisdom, and pass on from generation to generation experience, culture, and traditions. Ukrainian language is the most sacred wealth, our treasure:
“It is our word, it is a daily miracle,
That is the sun’s vision through the stone pain,
That is the spirit of the people – O almighty Buddha!
Take everything from us – we will not give a speech! .. “
It is everyone’s responsibility to know, preserve and multiply their native language. Therefore, it is clear that the people who do not realize its importance – can not count on a worthy place in the world”.

Masters of the Faculty of Philology also joined the celebration of the Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language. Students along with the director of our Institute prepared videos with poems about the Ukrainian language, which they like the most, at the classes on Methods of teaching the Ukrainian language in high school. The graduate students tried to show all the power and greatness of the Ukrainian word and urged everyone to take care of their native language.

Here is how Yulia Hashynska shares her impressions of her work:

“We chose the profession of philologist because we love the Ukrainian word. Over the years we have been convinced many times that our language is unique, rich, perfect, so we love it even more. The Latin proverb teaches that even emperors obey grammar. We live in a language: we learn about the world, communicate and share experiences through language, we also know about 134 bans on the Ukrainian language, so the main goal is to prevent 135. We want the Ukrainian word to be heard today, we encourage everyone to join our flashmob. texts about the Ukrainian language and publish them under the tag #let_the_Ukrainian_language_sound. I am convinced: for you it will be another opportunity to admire the native language!”
