Participation in the International Scientific Conference “The Nomad of Ukrainian Science from the Silver Land”

To the 90th birthday of the correspondent member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of philological sciences, professor Vasyl Vasyliovych Nimchuk Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, International Association of Ukrainianists, Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Department of the Ukrainian Language of the Faculty of Philology of the Uzhhorod National University, faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University (Krakow, Poland), Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Przyszów (Przyszów, Slovakia), Slavic Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (Prague, Czech Republic), Lorand Etves University (Budapest, Hungary), Department of Ukrainian Language and Culture at Niredgaz University (Niredhaza, Hungary), the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine organized the International Scientific Conference “The Nomad of Ukrainian Science from the Silver Land”, which began its work on October 4, 2023. 139 participants from Ukraine and European countries took part in the International Scientific Conference.

The scientific forum was attended by scientists of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University: doctor of philological sciences, professor of the Ukrainian language department Greshchuk Vasyl Vasyliovych, candidate of philological sciences and assistant professor of the Ukrainian language department, director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Ukrainian Studies Greshchuk Valentina Vasylivna.

The purpose of the conference was to represent the results of scientific research by scientists from Ukraine and foreign countries from various fields of modern science in honor of the memory of the correspondent member of the National Academy of Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences, long-term director of the Institute of Medical Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences, doctor of philological sciences, professor, head of the Department of the History of the Ukrainian Language Vasyl Vasyliovych Nimchuk. The issues of the conference covered a wide range of issues: V.V. Nimchuk is a prominent modern Ukrainian scientist; problems of studying the history of the Ukrainian language; the study of monuments is one of the urgent problems of modern linguistics; functioning of the Ukrainian language in independent Ukraine; problems of Ukrainian spelling; study of inter-Slavic language connections; achievements of Ukrainian dialectology and linguistic geography; achievements of phraseology and phraseography of the Ukrainian language in comparative and comparative aspects; issues of grammar and stylistics in Ukrainian linguistics; problems of onomastics in modern linguistic studies; questions of ethnolinguistics, linguocultural studies in the latest linguistic studies.

The Rector of Uzhgorod National University, Professor Volodymyr Smolanka, and the Dean of the Philological Faculty of Uzhgorod National University, Professor Yuriy Bidzilya addressed the participants of the conference with a welcome speech. Memories of V.V. were very sensual. Nimchuk of his niece Myroslava Nimchuk-Mezina.

The work of the conference began with the first plenary session, at which the participants had the opportunity to listen to the following reports: “A life dedicated to science and people (to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Vasyl Vasyliovych Nimchuk)” (N. Venzhynovych), “Dual prepositions and dual prefixes as a local feature in the Ukrainian continuum” (P. Hrytsenko), “New trends and phenomena in the creation of hybrid de-substantive relative adjectives” (K. Horodenska) and others. At the second plenary session, scientists of Vasyl Stefanyk Prykarpattia National University, professor Vasyl Greschuk and assistant professor Valentina Greschuk, had the opportunity to deliver their report “Phrasal space in Vasyl Stefanyk’s short stories”. Current issues were touched upon in reports: “From Omelyan Pritsak to Vasyl Nimchuk, or when did Dnipro become Slovuta?” (A. Danylenko), “On the origin of Transcarpathian anthroponyms (addition to the historical and etymological dictionary of surnames of Transcarpathian Ukrainians by P.P. Chuchka)” (S. Verbych), “Communicative-intentional breadth of religious discourse: the context of the “sacred language” of Vasyl Nimchuk” (S. Shabat-Savka) and others.

The presentation of research continued at the round table “V.V. Nimchuk – an outstanding Ukrainian scientist of our time”. Conference participants had the opportunity to listen to the following reports: “Presentation of the website about V.V. Nimchuk” (V. Sharkan, V. Putrashyk), “V. V. Nimchuk and the problems of Ukrainian word-forming morphonology” (M. Fedurko), “Sociolinguistic problems in the works of Professor Vasyl Nimchuk” (G. Shumytska), “On the issue of the specifics of the creation of adverbial figurative derivatives in the context of the scientific views of V.V. Nimchuk” (T. Hutsulyak), “Scientific discourse of Vasyl Nimchuk: linguistic stylistic and pragmatic aspects” (N. Tsivun) and others.

The work of the conference was continued by sectional sessions: “Achievements of Ukrainian dialectology and linguistic geography”, “Problems of studying the history of the Ukrainian language”, “Problems of onomastics in modern linguistic studies”, “Functioning of the Ukrainian language in independent Ukraine. Issues of grammar and stylistics in Ukrainian linguistics. Study of interwords” Ukrainian language connections”, “Questions of ethnolinguistics, linguocultural studies in the latest linguistic studies. Achievements of phraseology and phraseography of the Ukrainian language in comparative and comparative aspects”.
