On October 25-26, the All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference “Professor Vasyl Dobosh in the History of the Uzhgorod School of Linguistics” (to the 100th anniversary of the scientist’s birth) was held, organized by the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the NAS of Ukraine, the Department of the Ukrainian Language of the Uzhgorod National University.
The rector of the State Higher Educational Institution “Uzhgorod National University” Volodymyr Smolanka and the dean of the Faculty of Philology of the same university Yuriy Bidzili delivered welcoming remarks.
After the opening of the conference, a plenary session began. Scientists from different cities of Ukraine presented their scientific research: Prof. Pavlo Hrytsenko (Kyiv) “Urgent Problems of Cognition of Dialect Syntax”; Prof. Ivan Sabadosh and Assoc. Prof. Olha Mygolynets (Uzhgorod) “Scientific Achievements of the Uzhgorod Dialectological School”; Prof. Vira Kotovych (Drohobych) “Names of Ukrainian Cities as a Linguistic and Cultural Phenomenon”; Prof. Natalia Kovalenko (Kamyanets-Podilskyi) “Evaluation of a linguistic fact by a dialect speaker”; Prof. Natalia Venzhinovych (Uzhhorod) “Definitive codes of culture in modern phraseology of the Ukrainian language” and others.
On the same day, a meeting of 7 sections was held:
1. Research on the dynamics and statics of Ukrainian dialects.
2. Lexico-semantic system of dialect.
3. Dialectology in the circle of related sciences.
4. Dialectology and onomastics.
5. Ukrainian phraseology and lexicography
6. Current problems of grammar.
7. Dialect and artistic discourse (subsections 7.1 and 7.2)
In subsection 7.2. “Dialect and Artistic Discourse” (moderator Prof. Vasyl Vasylyovych Greshchuk) their report “Linguistic picture of the Hutsul world through the prism of artistic language. Kohut” was delivered by Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University Vasyl Vasylyovych Greshchuk and Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Ukrainian Studies of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language Valentyna Vasylivna Greshchuk. The following presentations were presented by: master’s student Angelina Logosh (Chernivtsi) “The use of dialect words and forms in the practice of Ukrainian literary translation of the late 19th and early 20th centuries (based on the work of V. Kmytsykevych); postgraduate student Maryna Kushtan (Uzhhorod) “The linguistic color of the novel “Feast. The Eve” by Cornelius Herod”. The following reports were also announced in the subsection: prof. Svitlana Shabat-Savka (Chernivtsi) “Ukrainian emotionality and dialect continuum of Maria Matios’s speech creation”; associate professor Evelina Balla (Nyředháza, Uzhhorod) “Methods of reflecting Ukrainian dialect vocabulary in translations of literary texts into Hungarian (based on the short stories of V. Stefanyk)”; candidate of philological sciences Halyna Vyshnevska (Ternopil) “Dialectisms as a cultural code in the work of Maria Tkachivska”; Assoc. Prof. Lesya Legka (Drohobych) “Dialectal stress of verbs in the poetic works of Ivan Franko”; Assoc. Prof. Tetyana Likhtey (Uzhhorod) “Transcarpathian dialect element in Ukrainian translations of Slovak poetry”; Assoc. Prof. Yaroslav Lopushansky (Drohobych) “Ostap Hrytsay – master of literary translation and popularizer of Ukrainian literature in the German-speaking world”; Assoc. Prof. Ivanna Struk (Chernivtsi) “Vernacular basis of author’s speech in the dramatic text of Yuriy Fedkovych”; Assoc. Prof. Nataliya Torchynska (Khmelnytskyi) “Dialectal elements in modern song discourse”.
