4th year students of the Faculty of Philology under the guidance of the director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Ukrainian Studies, associate professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language Greshchuk Valentyna Vasylivna held final classes on the course “Stylistics and Culture of the Ukrainian Language”. The students were tasked with recreating the functional diversity of the word in different styles: colloquial and everyday, scientific, journalistic, artistic, epistolary, official and business and confessional.
To complete the task, the students of the UMLso-41 group were divided into separate subgroups and successfully implemented all the functional styles of the Ukrainian language using the images of the bride from the Hutsul wedding, the border guard and the anxious student recreated in the productions. Fedchyshyna Anastasia, a student of the UMLso-41 group, shared her impressions of the lesson on social networks:
“Our last task is special: it is a real challenge and at the same time an incredible pleasure. It not only gave free rein to our creative imagination, but also made a general summary of the entire educational path: all our knowledge about the styles of the Ukrainian language, their features and their correct application were reflected here.”
Students of the UMLso-42 group also successfully managed to combine the acquired theoretical knowledge with the art of theatrical performance. Thus, in the practical lesson on “Stylistics and Culture of the Ukrainian Language”, a whole palette of performances was recreated: from traditional St. Andrew’s evenings, filled with folk color, to mystical scenes. The students skillfully presented humor, creativity, intellectuality and the richness of the Ukrainian language in their productions. Shynkaruk Yaryna, a student of the UMLso-42 group, shared her impressions of participating in the “Interesting Stylistics” project:
“The ability to master language styles is not just a skill, but an art. They are the basis of speech culture, help express thoughts in different spheres of life and create a connection between language and society. Thanks to this task, we not only understood their meaning, but also learned to use styles in a creative and at the same time practical form”
The UMLf-41 group also skillfully implemented a creative approach to the task, recreating the functional diversity of the word in staged productions. The students were divided into two subgroups, each of which demonstrated the use of the selected word or phrase in different styles of speech. The first subgroup (Bunyk Tetyana, Zinko Olga and Dunets Oksana) chose the image of St. Nicholas. The main idea: to find a sponsor for the filming of a film about the Miracle Worker. The second subgroup (Dubik Sofia, Berezovska Kateryna, Gavrylyak Yana, Kovbas Khrystyna and Moskal Sofia) chose the keyword “wine”. The main idea: to search for stolen wine with hints of detective and comedy. Students consciously and creatively approach the implementation of such tasks, where a creative approach is required, because as Oksana Dunets, a student of the UMLf-41 group, states: “Language is not just rules, but a living system that adapts to each situation”
