On April 8-9, Uzhhorod National University hosted the XIX All-Ukrainian Onomastic Conference with International Participation, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Kirill Galas. Employees of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Ukrainian Studies, director Valentyna Greshchuk and leading specialist Hanna Shkoruta took part with a report on “Structural and word-forming characteristics of microtoponyms of the village of Pidpechery, Tysmenytsia district, Ivano-Frankivsk region”.
The conference was opened by Sviatoslav Verbych, Chairman of the Onomastic Commission, Senior Researcher of the Ukrainian Language and Onomastics Department of the Ukrainian Language Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Galyna Shumytska, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, and Professor Natalia Venzhynovych, Head of the Ukrainian Language Department.
The reports of Doctor of Philology Anatoliy Popovsky, Candidate of Philology Alla Galas, Doctor of Philology Zoryana Kupchynska and others were announced at the plenary session.
The director of the institute Valentyna Vasylivna Hreshchuk and the leading specialist Hanna Shkoruta spoke in the section “Ukrainian regional toponymy in synchrony and diachrony” and had the opportunity to share the prepared presentation of their report.
The participants of the section were well-known onomastic philologists, in particular Zoryana Kupchynska, Veronika Banyoi, Natalia Lisnyak, Natalia Sokil-Klepar, Inna Tsaralunga, whose reports corresponded to the issues of the conference and gave the great interest to the audience.
Following the conference, the publication of the “Scientific Bulletin of Uzhgorod University. Series: Philology” is planned.
