This year we celebrate the 207th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko, whose name has become a symbol of Ukraine. The bright figure of Taras Grygorovych with his selfless love for the people, for his Motherland will always have a huge influence and will cause sincere admiration at all times. Traditionally, creative evenings, poetry readings, educational classes, etc. take place all over Ukraine on the anniversary of the great poet’s birth. The Faculty of Philology is no exception. Today, under the guidance of the director of our Institute, students majoring in “014 Secondary Education (014.01 Ukrainian Language and Literature)” held thematic educational activities dedicated to the Shevchenko Days and the spring holiday.
Master Dezhenitska Marianna showed a very creative approach to the celebration and organized a real literary quest for high school students of Bohdan Secondary School of Rakhiv district of Zakarpattia region. Students were happy to answer questions from the “Shevchenko quiz”, clearly recited the poetry of Kobzar, transformed into prominent people who influenced the life of Taras Grygorovych, and in general proved to be experts in the life and career of the poet. Marianna was able to interest high school students by offering them puzzles with encrypted names of favorite poems, proverbs and sayings about Shevchenko, and also shared her impressions of studying philology, encouraging future entrants to choose our faculty:
“March 9 is not only the beginning of a warm, tender spring, it is the birthday of Taras Shevchenko, a prominent Ukrainian poet, pen master, artist, a man known to every Ukrainian. And for eleventh-graders, this spring is also a decisive step, because there is a choice for the future. That is why we decided to combine these events with the eleventh grades of Bohdan Secondary School of Rakhiv district of Zakarpattia region and to hold an online event “Shevchenko’s word and the breath of spring is the key to your goal”, the idea of which I discussed with my master’s supervisor. The students recited the poems of the great poet, recreated a virtual journey through Shevchenko’s time, showed excellent knowledge of his poems in the quiz “From which work?” I am proud that nowadays they are interested in Ukrainian culture and literature.
Guests of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University – Associate Professor Valentyna Greshchuk , leading specialist of the Institute of Ukrainian Studies Natalia Dranitsyna and 3rd year students of the Faculty of Philology majoring in 014.01 Secondary Education (Ukrainian language and literature) Oleksandra Semenyuk and Ivanna Bubeschuk.
I thank Valentyna Vasylivna for sincere and warm words, for an interesting story about the native faculty, about the opportunities and prospects in education that each student receives. Ivanka and Oleksandra told about the advantages of studying at the Faculty of Philology of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, about extremely valuable practices, shared their impressions. We are sincerely grateful to everyone for a pleasant meeting, which, I hope, was very necessary, and we wish future graduates not to make a mistake in choosing a profession”.

Similar work was done by bachelors Chekhovska Vasilina and Rybchak Solomiya. Together with high school students of Svarychiv Lyceum of Rozhnyativ village council, the students held an educational event dedicated to the anniversary of the birth of the titan of Ukrainian literature, proving once again that March is rightly called Shevchenko, and the figure of the poet and his work is not only what they study, but and what they live for. Reflections on Shevchenko’s fate were successfully intertwined with the curiosities that the bachelors offered to high school students: a quiz to honor the memory of Kobzar, tasks to establish correspondences, a crossword puzzle and puzzles to know the facts from the writer’s biography.
